Mexico Fights Back

After last week’s decision of the Trump administration to impose steep tariffs on steel and aluminum imports from the most important allies of the United States: Mexico, Canada, and the European Union, their southern neighbor announced a plan to fight back.

According to the official announcements of the Mexican government, they would be implementing their own tariffs on steel and aluminum exports from the United States in the amount of 15 to 25%, depending on the product. Furthermore, Mexico would also put tariffs on other American products, most notably from the food industry, such as pork and potatoes. The country also officially invited other countries to fulfill a quota on those products that would not be subjected to tariffs.

Previously, Canada and the European Union also announced their plans to retaliate against tariffs from the United States.
